Co-op or Internship Work Permit

Eligibility

  • The applicant has a valid study permit
  • Work is required to complete the study program in Canada
  • The applicant has a letter from school that confirms all students in the program need to complete work placements to get their degree
  • Total co-op placement or internship cannot be more than 50% of the study program
  • ESL/FSL (English or French as a second language), general interest courses, and courses to prepare for another study program are ineligible

 

Application Process:

If you haven’t already applied for your study permit, you can apply for your co-op or intern work permit at the same time. Usually applications are submitted online. All documents can be scanned, signed, and submitted online.

  • Create online account
  • Pay fees
  • Fill out, sign and date the forms
  • Submit the application

 

Application Documents:

  • The acceptance letter from your designated learning institution must confirm that a co-op or internship placement is part of your program’s curriculum.
  • Application form (IMM 5710)
  • Document Checklist
  • Proof of payment
  • Electronic photo
  • Scans of the information pages of your valid passport (clearing showing the passport number, the dates of issue and expiry, your photo, name and date of birth, stamps made by the Canadian authorities for your entry, any other marked pages)
